SharePoint File Xplorer

Beneficiary

 Global Administrators.

Description

SharePoint File Xplorer is an Excel add-in that gives Global Administrators direct access to SharePoint Online document libraries from within Excel. It eliminates the need to switch between SharePoint and Excel when working with files, folders, and their metadata.

Key Features:

  • File and Folder Browsing: Connect to any SharePoint Online site and navigate document libraries in a tree-view panel inside Excel. Switch between File Mode and Folder Mode depending on your task.
  • Metadata Import: Pull file and folder metadata into your workbook with a single click. The add-in populates a structured sheet template with file names, paths, and properties – ready for review, transferring or reporting.
  • Folder Selection Control: Use tri-state checkboxes to control exactly what gets imported: an entire folder tree, a specific folder without subfolders, or a custom selection across multiple locations.
  • Rename and Move Files: Edit destination paths and file names directly in the Excel sheet, then sync your changes back to SharePoint. The add-in validates your edits before executing any operations.
  • Sync to SharePoint: Run move, rename, and delete operations against SharePoint in bulk. A progress view tracks each action, and validation catches errors before anything is committed.
  • Folder Actions: Right-click any folder to download it as a ZIP (with structure preserved), copy its SharePoint path, or view its properties – size, file count, creation and modification dates.

Benefits

  • Work with SharePoint files and folders directly in Excel – no need to switch between applications or browser tabs,
  • Import document metadata into a structured spreadsheet for reporting, auditing, or compliance workflows,
  • Rename and reorganize files in bulk by editing paths in Excel and syncing changes back to SharePoint,
  • Maintain full control over folder selection scope with tri-state checkboxes – import exactly what you need, nothing more,
  • Validate all changes before they are applied – the add-in checks for path length limits, missing values, and naming conflicts,
  • Download entire folder structures as ZIP archives while preserving the original hierarchy.
