Microsoft Teams Contact Center Implementation

Microsoft Teams Contact Center Implementation is a 4-week engagement that starts with a requirements workshop, recommends the right contact center tier for your size — native Teams Phone call queues and auto attendants, Dynamics 365 Contact Center with Teams Phone extensibility, or a certified third-party CCaaS — and then implements it: queues, IVR call flows, routing, reporting, and agent onboarding. Pricing is quoted per engagement because the platform choice drives the price; the workshop tells you which tier you actually need before you commit to any of them.

What this engagement is

"Teams contact center" means three different things, and vendors rarely tell you which one they are selling. This service exists to implement the right one for your size — and to tell you plainly when a cheaper tier is enough. Tier one is native Teams Phone: call queues, auto attendants, business-hours schedules, and shared voicemail built into the phone system you may already own. Add the Queues app — which requires a Teams Premium license for each agent on top of Teams Phone — and a small support or sales team gets real queue operations inside the Teams client: agents opt in and out of queues, leads see real-time and historical queue metrics, and supervisors get oversight tools such as call monitoring. For many SMB service desks that have outgrown hunt groups, this tier is the honest answer, and it is the least expensive one we can recommend. Tier two is Dynamics 365 Contact Center, Microsoft's own contact center platform. Since Teams Phone extensibility became generally available in September 2025, it can use your existing Teams Phone numbers and PSTN connectivity — Calling Plans, Operator Connect, or Direct Routing — while adding what native Teams cannot express: omnichannel routing across voice and digital channels, Copilot-assisted agent experiences, unified routing rules, and contact center reporting with CRM context. It is licensed per agent, and that licensing is yours to buy; we implement and configure it. Tier three is a certified third-party CCaaS integrated with Teams. Microsoft runs a certification program for contact center solutions that connect to Teams, with vendors such as Landis, Luware, Anywhere365, ComputerTalk, Five9, Genesys, and NICE participating — Microsoft's published list is the current authority, since certifications change. If you already run one of these platforms, or need capabilities and vertical features they serve best, we implement the Teams side and the integration; the CCaaS subscription and its terms stay between you and the vendor, and we do not disparage any of them to win the build. The engagement starts with a requirements workshop — channels, volumes, agent count, hours, routing logic, reporting needs — and produces a written recommendation with a fixed quote for the implementation. Then we build it: queues and IVR flows, routing, reporting, and hands-on onboarding for agents and supervisors. If your requirements point to a large-enterprise CCaaS program with a formal RFP, we say so and refer you honestly rather than stretch this engagement over it.

Success criteria

01The requirements workshop is complete and the written platform recommendation — native Teams Phone, Dynamics 365 Contact Center, or a certified CCaaS — is accepted with a fixed implementation quote.
02Inbound calls reach the right queue or IVR path, and routing follows the approved call flows during business hours, after hours, and on holidays.
03Agents take and manage queue calls from the agreed client (Teams, the Queues app, the Dynamics 365 Contact Center workspace, or the CCaaS agent app).
04Supervisors can see queue activity through the reporting surface of the chosen platform, and the agreed oversight features work.
05Agents and supervisors have completed onboarding sessions and handled representative test scenarios before cutover.
06Your administrators receive documentation of the configured queues, call flows, and routing rules at handover.

What you receive

Requirements workshop covering channels, call volumes, agent count, operating hours, routing logic, escalation paths, and reporting needs.
Written platform recommendation with the licensing each tier requires and a fixed quote for the implementation phase.
Licensing prerequisite map for the chosen tier — Teams Phone and Teams Premium for the native tier with the Queues app, Dynamics 365 Contact Center licensing, or the CCaaS vendor's requirements; the licenses themselves remain your purchase.
Configured call queues and auto attendants (or the platform's equivalent queue and IVR objects), with business-hours schedules, holiday sets, greetings, and overflow behavior.
Routing configuration: menu trees, skills- or group-based distribution as the platform supports, callback and voicemail paths, and escalation flows as approved in the workshop.
Reporting setup on the chosen platform — Queues app dashboards, Dynamics 365 Contact Center reports, or the vendor's reporting — with the metrics your supervisors agreed to track.
Agent and supervisor onboarding sessions with representative test-call scenarios.
Configuration documentation and an admin handover session, plus a closeout report against the workshop requirements.

How the work unfolds

1. Requirements workshop

Structured session with your support or sales leads: channels, volumes, agent roster, hours, routing and escalation logic, reporting needs, and what callers experience today. This is where hunt-group pain becomes concrete requirements.

2. Platform recommendation and quote

We map the requirements to the three tiers, recommend one in writing — including the licensing it needs and what it deliberately leaves out — and issue the fixed implementation quote. If the honest answer is a large-enterprise CCaaS RFP, we refer you rather than proceed.

3. Foundation check

Verify Teams Phone, PSTN connectivity, service numbers, resource accounts, and licensing for the chosen tier; identify gaps (for example, Teams Premium for Queues app agents, or Dynamics 365 Contact Center licenses) before the build starts.

4. Build

Configure queues, auto attendants and IVR flows, routing rules, schedules and holidays, greetings, callback and voicemail paths, and the reporting surface on the chosen platform.

5. Agent and supervisor onboarding

Hands-on sessions for agents (taking, transferring, and wrapping queue calls) and supervisors (dashboards, oversight features, queue membership changes), using representative test scenarios.

6. Pilot and tuning

Run live or shadow traffic through the new flows with a pilot group, tune routing, timeouts, overflow, and announcements against real behavior.

7. Cutover and handover

Point production numbers at the new flows, validate end-to-end scenarios, hand over configuration documentation, and close out against the workshop requirements.

Prerequisites

A Microsoft 365 tenant with Microsoft Teams in use. For the native and Dynamics 365 tiers, Teams Phone with a PSTN connectivity option (Calling Plan, Operator Connect, or Direct Routing) must be in place — if it is not, our Microsoft Teams Phone System Setup service comes first, and we will tell you so at the workshop.
Administrative access to your tenant (we request granular, time-bound GDAP access that you approve — never standing global admin).
Licensing for the chosen tier, purchased before the build phase: Teams Premium for each Queues app agent on the native tier, Dynamics 365 Contact Center licensing for tier two, or the vendor subscription for a certified CCaaS. We can supply Microsoft licenses through our direct CSP relationship or advise on your agreement; license costs are not part of the service fee.
A named decision-maker for call-flow approvals, and availability of your support/sales leads for the workshop and onboarding sessions.
Approved greetings, announcements, and hold audio (or scripts we can have recorded as a scoped extra).

Who does what

IT Partner

  • Run the requirements workshop and deliver the written platform recommendation and fixed quote.
  • Verify licensing and telephony prerequisites for the chosen tier before the build.
  • Configure queues, IVR and auto attendant flows, routing, schedules, and reporting on the chosen platform.
  • Deliver agent and supervisor onboarding and run the pilot and cutover.
  • Provide configuration documentation, the admin handover, and the closeout report.

Your team

  • Make the platform decision on the basis of the written recommendation, and purchase the licensing or CCaaS subscription it requires.
  • Provide call-flow decisions, greetings and audio assets, and timely approvals.
  • Make agents, supervisors, and a decision-maker available for the workshop, onboarding, and pilot.
  • Hold the commercial relationship with any third-party CCaaS vendor, including its contract and support terms.
  • Communicate the change to your team and coordinate any outside vendors.

What's not included

License and subscription costs: Teams Phone, Teams Premium, calling plans and usage, Dynamics 365 Contact Center licensing, and any third-party CCaaS subscription are billed by Microsoft or the vendor, not by IT Partner.
Initial Teams Phone deployment and number porting — that is our Microsoft Teams Phone System Setup service, and we sequence it first when it is missing.
Compliance call recording — available separately as our Automatic Call Recording for Teams implementation.
Outbound-dialer and campaign compliance consulting (for example, TCPA/DNC program design): we configure the platform features you license, but regulatory compliance of outbound campaigns needs specialist counsel and is out of scope.
Large-enterprise CCaaS selection programs and RFP responses — typically hundreds of agents with formal procurement; we refer these honestly instead of stretching an SMB-shaped engagement over them.
Custom CRM or app development around the contact center (available separately as scoped development work).
Ongoing contact center operations and administration after handover — available separately as our Microsoft Teams Administrator on Demand service.

Limitations & technical notes

!Pricing is quote-required by design: the three tiers differ by an order of magnitude in build effort and licensing, so a single sticker price would mislead in both directions. The workshop and recommendation produce the fixed quote before any build work begins.
!The Queues app requires a Teams Premium license for each agent, on top of a Teams Phone license — without it, the native tier still delivers call queues and auto attendants, but not the agent opt-in/out and queue-analytics experience.
!Since November 1, 2025, Microsoft requires pay-as-you-go funding or Communications Credits for resource accounts that place outbound PSTN calls through Calling Plan numbers — this affects callback and outbound-transfer scenarios, and we flag it in the licensing map.
!Dynamics 365 Contact Center capabilities and licensing evolve quickly; Teams Phone extensibility (generally available since September 2025) is verified against Microsoft's documentation at the workshop, not assumed from this page.
!Third-party CCaaS features, pricing, and Microsoft certification status belong to the vendors and change over time — Microsoft's published certified-solutions list is the authority we check at recommendation time.
!The 4-week duration assumes timely platform and call-flow decisions, license availability, and agent participation in onboarding; the pilot can extend if live traffic surfaces routing changes.

Frequently asked questions

What does "Teams contact center" actually mean?

One of three things: native Teams Phone call queues and auto attendants (optionally with the Queues app for real agent and supervisor operations), Dynamics 365 Contact Center using Teams Phone extensibility for its telephony, or a third-party CCaaS platform certified to integrate with Teams. They differ enormously in cost and capability, and the first job of this engagement is telling you which one your requirements actually justify.

Which tier is right for our size?

As a rule of thumb from our practice: a support or sales team that has outgrown hunt groups but works a single channel (voice) is usually well served by native Teams Phone queues, with the Queues app added when supervisors need real-time metrics and agent opt-in/out. Teams needing omnichannel routing, CRM context, or Copilot-assisted agent workflows point to Dynamics 365 Contact Center or a certified CCaaS. The workshop makes this concrete for your numbers, and the recommendation is written down so you can hold us to the reasoning.

What licenses does the native tier need?

Teams Phone with a PSTN connectivity option (Calling Plan, Operator Connect, or Direct Routing) for callers to reach you, and — only if you want the Queues app experience — a Teams Premium license for each agent and supervisor using it. Call queues and auto attendants themselves are configured against resource accounts and do not require Teams Premium. We map the exact license list for your roster before you buy anything.

What is the Queues app?

A Teams Premium feature that turns Teams into a working queue console: agents opt in and out of their queues, see queue calls, and handle them inside Teams; leads and supervisors get real-time and historical queue analytics and oversight capabilities. It is the biggest single upgrade to the native tier and the reason many SMBs never need a full CCaaS.

What is Teams Phone extensibility for Dynamics 365 Contact Center?

Microsoft's integration — generally available since September 2025 — that lets Dynamics 365 Contact Center use your existing Teams Phone numbers and PSTN connectivity (Calling Plans, Operator Connect, or Direct Routing) as its voice channel, built on Azure Communication Services. Practically, it means moving up from native Teams queues to a real contact center platform without repurchasing or re-porting your telephony.

Can we keep our existing numbers and carrier setup?

Yes — all three tiers build on the Teams Phone numbers and PSTN connectivity you already have. If your numbers are still with a legacy provider, porting them into Teams is handled by our Teams Phone migration and setup services, which we sequence before the contact center build.

Do you implement third-party platforms like Five9, Genesys, or NICE?

We implement the Teams side and the Teams integration of certified contact center solutions, and configure the call flows and routing within the platform where our practice covers it. The CCaaS subscription, its contract, and its vendor support relationship are yours. For deep platform-native builds at enterprise scale, we say so at the workshop and refer you to the vendor's professional services rather than overreach.

Why is there no fixed price on this page?

Because the platform choice drives the price: a native Teams Phone build, a Dynamics 365 Contact Center implementation, and a CCaaS integration are very different projects. Publishing one number would either overcharge the small case or hide the real cost of the large one. The workshop produces a written recommendation and a fixed quote — in writing, before build work begins, and you pay after you approve delivery.

How long does the engagement take?

The planned duration is 4 weeks: workshop and recommendation in week one, foundation and build in weeks two and three, onboarding, pilot, and cutover in week four. A Dynamics 365 or CCaaS tier with complex routing can extend the build phase — the quote states the timeline for your chosen tier.

Can we start with native queues and upgrade later?

Yes, and we often recommend exactly that. The native tier's queues, auto attendants, numbers, and PSTN connectivity remain the foundation if you later adopt Dynamics 365 Contact Center — its Teams Phone extensibility reuses them — so starting small does not strand your investment.

Is call recording included?

No. Compliance call recording for Teams is a separate implementation — see our Automatic Call Recording for Teams service. Where the chosen contact center platform has its own recording features, we configure what you have licensed, but recording policy design and compliance scope belong to that separate engagement.

Do you set up outbound dialing campaigns?

We configure outbound calling capabilities that the chosen platform provides and you have licensed. What we do not do is outbound-dialer compliance consulting — TCPA, do-not-call, and consent program design need specialist legal input, and pretending otherwise would be a disservice. Note also that since November 2025, Microsoft requires pay-as-you-go funding or Communications Credits for outbound PSTN calls from resource accounts using Calling Plan numbers.

What happens after go-live?

You receive configuration documentation and an admin handover, and your team runs the contact center. If you would rather not own day-2 administration — queue membership changes, new call flows, seasonal schedules — our Microsoft Teams Administrator on Demand service covers it as an ongoing arrangement. There is no lock-in either way: everything we build lives in your tenant.
