This service moves SQL databases from your own SQL Server to SQL Server running in an Azure virtual machine, targeting the current supported version of SQL Server. This is a simple, well-tested technique for moving databases across machines. For large data transfers, IT Partner will help arrange shipment of hard drive(s) through the Azure Import/Export Service when uploading over the network is prohibitively expensive or not feasible.

Prerequisites

An active Azure subscription is available with permissions for IT Partner to create or configure the target Azure virtual machine, storage, networking, and related resources needed for the SQL Server VM.
SQL Server licensing and Windows Server licensing requirements for the target Azure VM are confirmed, including whether Azure Marketplace images, Azure Hybrid Benefit, or customer-provided licensing will be used.
The source SQL Server version, edition, collation, database list, database sizes, recovery model, and any SQL Server features in use are identified before migration.
The target Azure VM size, operating system, the current supported version of SQL Server, storage layout, region, and virtual network design are agreed before deployment.
Administrative access is available to the source Windows Server, source SQL Server instance, Azure subscription, target VM, and any backup or file-share locations used during the migration.
Sufficient temporary storage is available for full database backup files and transfer files, either on-premises, in Azure storage, or through the agreed transfer method.
Required network connectivity, firewall rules, ports, VPN or public access approach, DNS/name resolution, and security controls are approved and ready for the migration window.
A migration and cutover window is agreed with business stakeholders, including any expected application downtime required to take final backups, restore databases, and redirect applications.
Application owners or vendors are available to validate application connectivity after the databases are restored in Azure.
Current backups are available and the customer has confirmed any retention, rollback, or compliance requirements that could affect the migration approach.
