Extended Security Updates help you maintain security compliance while you plan and execute your upgrade or modernization strategy. Customers can continue to use their existing support agreement to receive technical support for covered servers.

Windows Server Standard and Datacenter are licensed per core: minimum 16 cores per server and 8 per processor, sold as core packs.
Every user or device that touches the server also needs a Windows Server CAL; Remote Desktop use needs RDS CALs on top.
