Should we choose Copilot Business or Copilot Enterprise?

Copilot Business fits most SMB engineering teams: centralized license and policy management, IP indemnification, exclusion controls, and audit logs, available without GitHub Enterprise Cloud. Copilot Enterprise adds organization-codebase-aware capabilities and deeper GitHub.com integration, but requires GitHub Enterprise Cloud, so the platform cost enters the equation. We map both against your team size, repository setup, and roadmap, and put the recommendation in writing during kickoff.

Will GitHub train AI models on our code?

Per GitHub's documentation, prompts and suggestions from Copilot Business and Copilot Enterprise are not used to train GitHub's models. We record this in the decision brief with references to GitHub's current documentation, and configure telemetry-related settings to your policy. If the assurance is contractually material, your counsel should verify it against GitHub's current terms — we configure platforms; we do not give legal opinions.

What about copyright risk in Copilot's suggestions?

GitHub provides IP indemnification for Copilot Business and Enterprise customers, conditioned on its documented settings — notably keeping the duplication-detection filter set to block suggestions that match public code. Part of this engagement is configuring your organization to those conditions and documenting it, so that if the question ever reaches your board or your counsel, the answer is a configuration record rather than a shrug.

Can we keep Copilot away from our most sensitive code?

Yes — content exclusions let you block specified repositories and paths from being used as context. We configure exclusions for the repositories you nominate and document the register. We are also honest about the limits: GitHub's documentation notes that exclusions may not apply in every client and feature in all cases, so material that must never leave your control belongs behind access controls, with exclusions as one governance layer among several.

What do the developer workshops cover?

Two live, hands-on sessions of up to 25 developers each, run in your own codebase rather than toy examples: effective prompting for completions and chat, using agent-based workflows where your plan includes them, Copilot in code review, generating and improving tests, and knowing when not to trust a suggestion. The goal is developers who use Copilot well by default — not a slide deck about AI.

How do we measure whether Copilot is worth the money?

You then run the 30/60-day cadence from the handover checklist. We deliberately do not promise a productivity percentage: published gains vary by team and codebase, and installing honest measurement beats quoting someone else's benchmark.

Do we need GitHub Enterprise Cloud?

Only for Copilot Enterprise. Copilot Business is available for organizations without GitHub Enterprise Cloud, which is why it is the usual starting point for SMB teams. If the plan decision lands on Enterprise, the GitHub Enterprise Cloud prerequisite and its cost implications go into the decision brief before you commit.

What does the $2,950 fixed price include, and what is extra?

The fixed price covers everything listed in the deliverables: plan decision, policy and exclusion configuration, the acceptable-use standard, two workshops for up to 25 developers each, and the measurement setup with baseline. GitHub and Copilot licensing, metered premium-model usage, additional workshop cohorts for larger teams, Microsoft 365 Copilot services, and ongoing adoption management are separate costs.

How long does the rollout take?

About 1 week: policy and exclusion configuration early in the week, seat rollout and the acceptable-use standard mid-week, workshops and measurement setup by the end. The schedule assumes licenses are in place at kickoff and developers can attend both sessions; if procurement or legal review is still running, we start with the decision brief and governance design so no time is wasted.
