Microsoft Teams Phone System Setup — PSTN Calling & Cloud PBX
IT Partner sets up Microsoft Teams Phone System so your users place and receive PSTN calls in Microsoft Teams. The $3,500 fixed-price project covers a kickoff call, number porting (up to 20 service numbers and unlimited per-user numbers), up to three Auto Attendants, up to three Call Queues, custom schedules and holidays, and call routing — typically delivered in 2 weeks.
What this engagement is
This service stands up your business phone system on Microsoft Teams Phone System — the cloud PBX delivered from Microsoft 365. It can replace an existing PBX: users place and receive PSTN calls, transfer, forward, and hold calls directly in Microsoft Teams from a mobile device, a headset with a laptop or PC, or a certified Teams IP phone, and administrators manage calling from the same Microsoft 365 admin tooling used for messaging and collaboration. The engagement is a fixed-scope, $3,500 one-time implementation: IT Partner runs a kickoff call, coordinates porting of your existing numbers (up to 20 service numbers and unlimited per-user numbers), configures up to three Auto Attendants and up to three Call Queues with custom business-hours schedules and holidays, and sets up call routing for the in-scope users. Desk phone selection, planning, deployment, and implementation are included only when the phones are purchased through IT Partner.
Success criteria
What you receive
How the work unfolds
Kickoff call — confirm scope, points of contact, the telephone number inventory, porting targets (up to 20 service numbers plus per-user numbers), Auto Attendant and Call Queue requirements, schedules and holidays, and the delivery plan.
Readiness check — verify Microsoft Teams Phone System and PSTN calling licensing, admin access, and existing Teams configuration; identify anything that could delay porting or setup.
Porting preparation and submission — collect carrier account details and a signed letter of authorization, prepare and submit the port requests, and track the carrier-confirmed port dates.
Core configuration — assign Teams Phone System licenses, assign telephone numbers to users and resource accounts, and set emergency locations.
Call-flow configuration — build up to three Auto Attendants and up to three Call Queues, load greetings, apply custom business-hours schedules and holiday sets, and configure call routing.
Validation — test representative inbound and outbound PSTN calls, Auto Attendant menus, Call Queue distribution, after-hours and holiday routing, transfers, forwarding, and voicemail delivery.
Port cutover and handoff — confirm ported numbers are live in Microsoft 365, re-validate the main call flows, review the configuration with your team, and close the project.

Frequently asked questions
What is included in IT Partner’s Microsoft Teams Phone System setup?
The fixed scope covers a project kickoff call, number porting for up to 20 service numbers and unlimited per-user numbers, up to three Auto Attendants, up to three Call Queues, custom business-hours schedules and holidays, call routing configuration, license and number assignment, emergency location setup, and validation of the main call scenarios before handoff.
How much does the Microsoft Teams Phone System setup cost?
The service is a $3,500 one-time, fixed-price implementation for the defined scope. Microsoft license, calling plan, and usage charges are separate and are billed by Microsoft or the carrier, not by IT Partner.
How long does the setup take?
The typical duration is 2 weeks. Number port dates are set by your current carrier, so a complex port can extend the timeline; IT Partner tracks each port request and re-validates call flows once the numbers go live.
Do you port our existing phone numbers?
Yes. The project includes porting of up to 20 service numbers (main lines, Auto Attendant and Call Queue numbers) and unlimited per-user numbers. You provide your carrier account details and a signed letter of authorization; IT Partner prepares and submits the port requests and tracks them to completion.
How many Auto Attendants and Call Queues are included?
Up to three Auto Attendants and up to three Call Queues, each with custom business-hours schedules and holiday routing. Additional Auto Attendants or Call Queues can be added as separate scope.
Are desk phones included?
Desk phone selection, planning, deployment, and implementation are included only when the phones are purchased through IT Partner. If you source phones elsewhere, their setup and configuration are a separate project.
What licenses do we need before the project starts?
Your Microsoft 365 tenant needs Microsoft Teams Phone System licensing and a PSTN connectivity option, such as a Microsoft Calling Plan, for the in-scope users. IT Partner assigns the available licenses during the project, but the licensing itself must be purchased separately.
Is voicemail included?
Cloud Voicemail comes enabled with Microsoft Teams Phone System, and the project validates that voicemail delivery works for in-scope users. Designing custom voicemail policies is out of scope.
Can this replace our existing PBX?
Yes — Microsoft Teams Phone System delivers PBX features from the Microsoft 365 cloud, so an existing on-premises PBX can be retired once numbers are ported and call flows are validated. Integration with or deployment of on-premises Enterprise Voice elements, including Direct Routing Session Border Controllers, is not included.
Is user training included?
No, customer team training is not included. If your users need training on Teams calling or device usage, that can be arranged as a separate service.
