Security Warnings and Macro Enablement in Microsoft Excel
Microsoft Excel may block macros in downloaded files, especially if those files are downloaded from the internet. If you encounter a Security Risk warning while opening a file, please follow these steps to enable macros safely:
- Unblock the File (Windows only)
Before opening the Global Report file:
-
- Right-click the downloaded file and select Properties,
- In the General tab, flag the Unblock checkbox (under Security block),
- Click Apply, then OK.
The file is now ready to use!

- Add the Folder to Trusted Locations
To bypass the macro blocking, you can designate the folder containing your files with macros as a Trusted Location. Here’s how:
-
- Open your Global Report with .xlsm extension,
- Go to File → Options → Trust Center → Trust Center Settings → Trusted Locations,
- Select Add New Location...
- click Browse to locate the folder where you saved the Global Report file,
- flag Subfolders of this location are also trusted checkbox (recommended),
- Click OK twice to save, then restart Excel to apply the settings.

- Enable Macros in Excel Settings
In addition to adding a Trusted Location, you must ensure that macros are enabled:
-
- Open your Global Report with .xlsm extension,
- Go to File → Options → Trust Center → Trust Center Settings → Macro Settings,
- Select Enable VBA macros option,
Note: while Microsoft advises caution, the Global Report is safe when downloaded from our official Email Report.
-
- Click OK twice to save and apply your settings.
