What is Microsoft 365?
Microsoft 365 combines Office 365, Windows 10 and Enterprise Mobility + Security (EMS) providing selected offerings of each in three different packages: Business, E3 and E5. These combinations, give organizations access to a range of powerful productivity and security solutions at a more cost effective price than purchasing these products separately.
While the two Microsoft 365 Enterprise plans have been on the market for a few months, the launch of the Business edition means that smaller business can take advantage of the Microsoft 365 offering. Capped at 300 users, Microsoft 365 Business Premium is priced at $20 per user per month, making it a much cheaper alternative to E3, which is $34 per user per month, though it does come with less functionality and fewer applications. Please note, however, that some of these applications can be purchased as add-ons if you aren't ready to jump from Business to E3, or from E3 to E5.
Microsoft 365 Business is Office 365 Business Premium combined with select features of EMS and Windows 10. These select features have been fairly hazy, but, with the release, more information is known and included in our comparison table below, though a few features of the Business edition are still a little vague (such as Windows 10 Business).

Who is Microsoft 365 Business intended for?
Microsoft 365 Business was purpose-built for small and medium-sized customers that have little to no IT resources on staff, do not rely on an Active Directory domain controller, and need a solution that provides their employees with the best-in-class productivity and collaboration capabilities of Office 365 and device management and security solutions to safeguard business data and assets across devices.
What should customers know before running Microsoft 365 Business in their organization?
Customers who wish to run Microsoft 365 Business in their organization must be running Windows 7, 8.1, or 10 Pro* on their current desktops and do not rely on a domain controller for their organization. Customers who use on-premises Active Directory must switch to cloud identity and management as part of their deployment. Current Windows 10 Pro PCs should install the Creators Update, if they have not already done so.
*Windows 10 Pro upgrade rights are included with the Microsoft 365 Business preview if the target machines are presently running Windows 7, 8, or 8.1.
